<installation: magnetic resonance, audio & human brain>

place: Forum Universal de las Culturas, Centro de las Artes, Monterrey, México
opening: 2007-06-01 | ending: 2007-08-01
curator: Fernando Delmar

The photograph of a young man killed during the Iran-Irak war –surrounded by plastic flowers with very vivid colors- is the central icon of a large format series of images that are part of the most recent works of Alejandro Gómez de Tuddo, done in Iran during 2004. Firuz Abad, precisely where the ruins of one of the more ancient fire temples are found, lodge today a small cemetery: young soldiers like the main character of this portrait rest here; they were given a golden key –to attain the opening of the doors of Allah’s paradise- in case they died in such war that it is so recent and yet seems so far

There are no titles, only indications of the place and year of the shot: Saigon 2002, Tehran 2004, Naples 2003; the photographic eye of Alejandro Gómez de Tuddo captures traces of a daily, universal violence almost archaic: bodies of animals reduced to shreds, slaughterd or sacrificed in rituals that survive into our postmodern times; living creatures that other living creatures kill for nourishmentor simply to ingratiate themselves; beings that only exist in the imaginary...

James Hall’s performance creates three-dimensional installations based upon Alejandro Gómez de Tuddo’s photographs; his own interpretation of these images delves into the emptiness that many people feel and their need to practice sacrifice and torture on themselves, as well as on others, as a means of bringing life into their “still lives”. Thus, the interpretation of the photographs continues its own lineage of thought and emotion.
